Experiential Learning Is Not Learning By Doing (90 Minutes)
Contemporary learning in the 21st Century demands that students develop their core competencies AND the 4 x Cs - Communication, Collaboration, Critical thinking & Creativity skills. As a methodology, experiential learning is extremely effective at accomplishing these two goals. Yet, many teachers (and schools) believe that simply integrating activities or projects into their curriculum is the same thing - it’s NOT. In this interactive session, Mark will apply an experiential approach to help you distinguish what is and is not experiential learning, to help you develop critical success skills for your students. You will walk away with a bunch of new ideas which you can immediately introduce into your curriculum, and more importantly, a couple of strategies to sharpen your teaching skills.

Teaching Positive Education - Creating Explicit Wellbeing Curriculum
This workshop will allow delegates to explore the why, what and how of Positive Education Curriculum. It is ideal for delegates who are seeking to create, adapt or adopt Positive Education curriculum for their particular context.
Delegates will hear about the process involved in creating an explicit Positive Education curriculum, based on the 10-year journey of Positive Education at Geelong Grammar School. They will explore a variety of elements that need to be considered when designing and implementing Positive Education curriculum, taking away key ideas and practical suggestions that will support the wellbeing of their students.
Delegates will also have the opportunity to analyse and deconstruct the process involved in creating explicit Positive Education lessons. They will be given a lesson analysis tool that can be used as part of a curriculum auditing process, as well as sample lesson plans from Geelong Grammar’s new explicit Positive Education Curriculum.

Success and Well-Being: Opposites that Need to Attract with Andy Hargreaves [Part 2]
This is a two part workshop

What’s the relationship between success and well-being for students and teachers? Is well-being a pre-requisite for academic success, or does success lead to well-being? Drawing on Professor Hargreaves’s upcoming book on Learning, Engagement and Wellbeing, this three hour workshop will engage participants with their own understandings of the relationship between well-being and success and introduce them to examples of how other schools go about making the connection.

Top Ten Interactive Games & Activities That Help Students Connect
A practical, interactive workshop which will present a series of activities that Mark uses to invite young people to connect with one another. They are all simple, non-threatening, and contagiously fun - which makes engaging your students so much easier. Mark will focus on demonstrating an actual sequence of activities, and follow-up with a brief discussion of how you can integrate similar activities into your own curriculum.

You will be able to immediately implement these ideas and will take away many activity ideas and resources to equip you with the skills to do this for yourself. Whether you are looking for new two-minute activity ideas to energise your group or fill-in down-time, to longer, more dynamic team-building exercises - this session will be perfect for you.

Positive Education – 10 Hopeful Thoughts
Geelong Grammar School (GGS) has been implementing and sustaining Positive Education for the past ten years. It has been a fascinating journey that has provided many lessons to the team of educators dedicated to pioneering this whole-school approach to wellbeing.

Justin Robinson was a Head of House at GGS back in 2008 when the staff and students were first introduced to the key tenets of positive psychology. Since this time, Justin has held the role of the Head of the Positive Education department for four years and has been the founding Director of the Institute of Positive Education for the past five years. These roles have enabled Justin to have significant personal experience in implementing wellbeing initiatives, supporting whole-school change, and assisting hundreds of schools around Australia and internationally to place wellbeing at the heart of education.

In this workshop, Justin will draw upon his insights from the successes and mistakes of the past ten years of Positive Education and share 10 Hopeful thoughts for the field of Positive Education as it looks forward to its next ten years. Delegates will be able to take away key ideas that will assist their school with their ongoing commitment to student and staff wellbeing.
