Get Students Excited about STEM with ROBOTS!
This HANDS-ON workshop is based on educational research on robotics. Student attitudes towards STEM as well as their self-efficacy are positively affected by engaging in activities that involve creating or building. Robotics is one specific area that help positively affect students’ attitudes in STEM.
VEX IQ is a robotics platform designed to transform STEM learning for young students and their teachers. Students can jump right in and snap robots together using this intuitive system. Educators can utilise free VEX IQ Curriculum materials to help teach valuable lessons and skills needed in today’s changing world.
Bring your Mac or PC to participate in the robot programming portion.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn the following:
  • Connections between robotics and STEM Education & Design
  • Learning about requirements for using the VEX IQ system
  • Hands-on learning with the VEX IQ system
  • Building a simple, yet fully functioning and programmable VEX IQ Robot
  • Simple programming of the built robot for autonomous routines
  • VEX robotics designs for competitions
  • Overview of the system and curricular flow from VEX IQ into the VEX EDR platform for middle and high school students
  • School Robotics Programs
  • Role of competition in school robotics programs
  • Setup a robotics program in school as a club/activity or class
  • Cost of starting the program, logistics, competitions, travel, etc.
